M. Gemi The Felize Shoes Unboxing & Review

I’ve been stalking the M. Gemi Felize loafers for awhile now, and when I saw that they offered them in a beautiful color called “Taupe Shimmer”, I finally decided to go for it. Their everyday policy of free shipping and free returns didn’t hurt either!

M. Gemi The Felize Review

First, a little background: I’ve always wanted a pair of Tod’s driving shoes. They just remind me of walking around the charming streets of Rome or Florence, eating gelato and visiting museums. Plus, they are super chic and comfortable, a fabulous combination in shoes!

However, I can’t justify paying hundreds of dollars for a pair of shoes. I know that the price reflects the materials and quality, but still, $425 for a pair of shoes is pretty steep for me. Enter M. Gemi’s The Felize, which in my opinion is an even better driving shoe than Tod’s Gommino loafers!

How do they compare to Tod’s loafers? Not only do they both have the iconic pebble sole, they are both hand-made in Italy using luxurious and soft leather and suede. While Tod’s is offered in different materials, only M. Gemi’s Felize is available in tons of colors! I’m also partial to the Felize in the color Forest, which is a dark green.

While the shoes themselves are luxurious and they have a generous free shipping and free returns policy, unboxing the shoes elevated my whole experience with the M. Gemi company.

First, their shoes are very thoughtfully packaged in a beautiful box with copper (or rose gold!) accents. They even included a pre-paid return label in the envelope below.

The shoes are carefully wrapped in layers of tissue paper, ensuring that the suede doesn’t get scratched. Even though the Taupe Shimmer color looked beautiful on the computer screen, seeing it in person was another story. It is truly a unique and gorgeous color for a loafer, giving a classic shoe shape a modern twist.

Second, the shoes come with a pretty shoe bag! I’m also partial to this logo because my name starts with a “G” 😉

Next, the inside cover of the shoe box is personalized with my name handwritten on a card. It was a small gesture that added to the specialness of receiving an order from M. Gemi.

It’s difficult to see in this picture, but the color is so stunning in person! It closely matches what the color looked like on my computer, which is always a good thing.

While my favorite part about these shoes is the color, my second favorite thing are these rubber pegs in the sole! Walking on them is so comfortable, like I have clouds on my feet.

I ordered them in a size 37, which is my usual size (size 7 in the US), and they fit perfectly. Usually shoes need some breaking in, but these I wore straight out of the box. The leather was very soft and the shoes really did mold to my feet. It really was like these were bespoke shoes made especially for me!

Plus, it’s like wearing jewelry for your feet that’s also extremely comfortable!

The light color means they will probably get dirty easily, but I’ll make sure to treat them carefully. It’s also probably why I should get another pair in the gorgeous Forest color since it’s much darker than the Taupe Shimmer! We’ll see…

Another pair I’ve been loving is The Lustro in the color Chianti and Copper. This is a stunning but subtle ombre shade that’s so unique! It has a 3.5″ block heel that the website states is “completely walkable”. I’m seriously thinking of buying them! Should I??

The Felize comes in so many colors and leather finishes there’s ANOTHER color I love: this rich purplish-blue color called Royal in their tumbled leather:

Shopping deals inspired by Paris: c’est la vie

Even though I’m not currently traveling, I still love to be reminded of Paris! That’s why I love finding treasures that either remind me of Paris or are Paris-related.

I’m going to make this a weekly post where I scour the internet for some French-inspired deals and steals that I know you’ll love!

Essential hygge winter items to keep you warm

If you’re like me and living on the east coast, you’re probably experiencing the aftermath of a major blizzard. It was so bad that work was canceled yesterday and today!

Nothing makes me more content than being indoors when the weather outside is terrible. It’s also the perfect reason to wear your pajamas and cozy slippers all day and binge-watch shows 🙂

However, we eventually have to leave, but whether you’re indoors or out, it’s important to make sure that you’re cozy, comfortable and, warm – the very definition of hygge!

Here are some hygge and stylish items to consider when heading out; just because it feels like below 0 degrees outside doesn’t mean you should sacrifice style!

The perfect travel wallet: Tory Burch Parker floral foldable mini wallet in Gabriella

I had been looking for a small wallet for awhile, one that fits a few credit cards, has a zipped compartment for coins, and has room for my bills without having to fold them. I also wanted a compact wallet to travel with because I don’t like to carry a lot when traveling. Since all of my wallets are solid colored, I also was looking for a wallet with a pretty print. I found the perfect wallet while perusing the Tory Burch website!

The Parker Floral Foldable Mini Wallet meets all my above requirements, plus it’s covered in a gorgeous floral print called Gabriella, described on the website as “covered in flowers inspired by Italy’s vine-strewn balconies”.Screen Shot 2017-09-24 at 3.09.51 PM

Even thought it’s on sale, I still debated on whether to buy it as it’s a lot of money for a wallet. I finally decided that it really was the perfect wallet and I really should get it! Unfortunately, when I tried to buy it the next day, I found that it was already sold out on Tory Burch’s website.

Well, I put my research skills to work and searched for the wallet for a similar price. Luckily, I found it on sale! Not only that, but this print, called Gabriella, is also available in the following styles, also all on sale:

Here’s a closer look at the wallet I bought:

Screen Shot 2017-09-24 at 3.12.49 PMThe leather is very substantial and the pattern is very vibrant in real life. It’s also very slim so it can fit in smaller bags for traveling. Plus, the white leather and floral pattern are easy to spot if you use a bigger bag that might not have many pockets.

There’s plenty of space for credit cards and receipts in both the credit card slots and this space in the center of the wallet. There’s also a zippered compartment on the back of the wallet for coins.

What finally sold me on this wallet was the pretty blue interior and the fact that I can place all my bills length-wise in the wallet – no more folding bills! I think money shouldn’t be folded and wrinkled, but maybe that’s just me.

You can receive an extra 10% off at Saks Fifth Avenue if you sign-up to receive emails! I unsubscribed right after I used my code so don’t worry if you’re worried about being inundated with emails from them.

What’s your perfect travel wallet? Let me know in the comments!

Modern Audrey Hepburn-inspired style

A couple weeks ago someone in Massachusetts won the second-largest Powerball in history. Sometimes I think about what I would do if I won that much money and money was no longer an issue. I thought it would be fun to dream for a bit and consider how I would spend my new winnings.

Of course, I would do the responsible stuff like pay off all my loans, donate money to worthy causes and start a scholarship for students to attend college, buy a reliable car, and give money to my family and friends 😉

After all that, I would definitely buy a chateau in Paris, or at least an apartment with a balcony and a view of the Eiffel Tower!

Paris in Boston Eiffel Tower

Next, I would furnish my new Paris home with artwork, plush furniture, and cozy blankets and candles.

Finally, I would buy a dream wardrobe consisting of clothes that I think a modern day Audrey Hepburn would wear. Of course, she would dress up and wear glamorous outfits every day. And since it gets chilly in Paris (and Boston!), she would always have a trench coat handy for unpredictable weather. Here are my picks for a modern day Audrey Hepburn wardrobe if I ever won the lottery:

Whether you buy your clothes in a fancy shopping gallery like this one in Paris, or from the comfort of your home, it’s nice to have some inspiration for your new wardrobe.

French Hygge: Chic comfort

The concept of Hygge was started in Denmark, which is consistently ranked one of the happiest countries in the world. It’s even the location of the awesome-sounding Happiness Research Institute, combining a couple of my favorite things: research and happiness! Seriously, how can I get a job there so I can be happy all the time?

Paris in Boston Louvre

Alas, I just have to settle for trying to bring the notion of hygge to where I am. The concept of hygge reflects the essence of this blog, which is the feeling of contentment. It’s easy to be happy when you’re on your dream vacation, but when you work tiring 9-5 days that also include long commutes, it becomes a bit tougher to find the time and energy to enjoy the little things in life. That’s why it’s so important to find moments of contentment no matter where you are!

For me, hygge includes traveling, reading a good book, learning how to cook a new recipe, watching good movies, discovering new café and restaurants, eating delicious food, appreciating nature, art, and architecture, and indulging in simple rituals like afternoon tea using beautiful tea cups and teapots. In fact, this sounds a lot like a French take on hygge!

Giving hygge a French twist, coupled with a little bit of Boston/New England sensibility, I’ve come up with a list of items that would make the perfect Paris in Boston French Hygge.

French Hygge should include:

  • Indulgent candles in scents of lavender, eucalyptus, cherry blossom, or French vanilla
  • Sipping tea in an antique teacup and a matching teapot
  • Cozy cashmere blankets, sweaters, and lounge pants
  • Picnics with friends and family
  • Appreciating the beauty of nature
  • Drinking rosé wine by the fireplace after a delicious meal
  • Fresh bouquet of flowers like lavender, roses, magnolias, or hydrangeas
  • Using the best silverware and china you own for everyday meals
  • Writing letters using a fancy pen

If money was no option, I would buy lots of cashmere to wear just to lounge around my château by the cape 😉 Because what else encompasses French Hygge than cashmere?

I’ve curated some options that would make an ideal French Hygge. What would your ideal hygge include?

Best dresses for a French wedding

Summer wedding season is still going strong, and if you’re like me, the perfect dress to wear to a wedding eludes you. One way to help narrow down dresses is to only look for a specific type of dress, whether by length, color, or brand.

Since this is Finding Paris in Boston, I tend to look for dresses with a hint of French style. Effortlessly elegant dresses that are breezy, unique, and whimsical. These are dresses that are memorable, so wear them to events where you won’t be running into the same people!

If your goal is to find your ideal dress when you go shopping, I think it will be difficult to pinpoint just what it is you’re looking for. You’ll recognize your perfect dress when you see it, and it might not match the image you had in your mind!

There are so many styles to choose from, so here are a few examples of my favorite dresses to wear to a wedding for inspiration:

The perfect rose gold bicycle

I was walking along Newbury Street one day when I happened to see something that so perfectly captured “Paris in Boston” I literally stopped in my tracks. What’s more “Paris in Boston” than a rose gold bicycle? Maybe one with a wicker basket attached that’s carrying a baguette, Camembert, and Rosé wine! Talk about a perfect summer day 🙂

I’m very glad I didn’t end up buying a bike in Canterbury, because now that I know that rose gold bikes exist, I’m setting my sights on getting one for myself.
