Disneyland Paris: Sunday brunch buffet at Inventions restaurant review

I recently visited Disneyland Paris during the holidays with the aim of not only taking in the parks (or “parcs” as they say in France)  in all their holiday splendor, but also to experience the bounties of the Sunday brunch buffet at Inventions restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel. Today, let’s travel to Paris to see what the Inventions buffet has to offer for brunch.

I first read about this buffet in a review about five years ago on the Disney Food Blog. Looking at the photos of this buffet, where food is treated and displayed like works of art, made me understand what Tina Fey as Liz Lemon meant on 30 Rock when she said the phrase “I want to go to there”. I mean, this buffet is glorious! Before we check out the food, let’s set the scene.

Since the restaurant is located within the Disneyland Hotel, you don’t have to worry about buying a ticket for the parks to eat at this wonderful restaurant. Disneyland Paris is unique in that the Disneyland Hotel also serves as the entrance for Disneyland Park, so you’re never too far away from the rides and entertainment.

However, during my visit with some friends, our only goal this day was to eat brunch at the buffet, and we saved lots of room by barely eating any breakfast. Our anticipation for our leisurely meal was heightened as we approached the Disneyland Hotel.

Disney always maintains the landscapes of its parks to the highest of standards, and Paris is no exception. In the gray weather of this holiday season in Paris, the vibrant pinks and pops of turquoise of the Disneyland Hotel stood out. Even though it was no longer warm out, the fountains were still running and the grass was still a vibrant green. I couldn’t help but feel excited and joy  upon seeing this sight!

We ventured into the hotel, and the lobby did not disappoint. Decorated for the holidays, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and festive. Just look at that grand staircase and those decorated balconies!

In the waiting area for the restaurants and lounge was a live band entertaining guests. They were playing some lovely holiday music, which set such a festive mood!

Inventions is located just off the waiting area. The sign for the restaurant was almost obscured by the holiday swag decorated with gold and glittery ornaments (or “baubles” as I was used to saying in the UK).

We could see the buffet to our left, but first we had to be seated.

We were seated next to the window in a bright, charming room, just to the left of the buffet area.

We even had a great view of Disneyland Park!

Now that we’ve looked around the lobby, waiting room, and restaurant, let’s get to the food!

The plates were “Disney-fied” with a small Tinkerbell design, but they were still quite elegant and not at all distracting.

When I first saw the assortment of food and the artistry with which the food was presented, I completely felt that the buffet was everything that I thought it would be and more. I know, I’m only talking about food, but food is important, it keeps us nourished and alive, right?

Let me show you a section of the buffet that completely captures what I was expecting in terms of presentation, quality, and whimsy. Wow, it did not disappoint.

I mean, come on! This is one gourmet buffet! Did we expect anything less from a French buffet, much less a French buffet at Disneyland Paris? It was so beautiful, I hardly wanted to take any food and mess up the carefully plated works of art. Of course I did though, I needed to see if the food tasted as good as it looked!

Since we’ve already seen some of the seafood, let’s continue with the other cold offerings, which were other types of seafood, meats and salads. There was so much to see and choose from that I hardly remember what was offered. It was really overwhelming! I just took it all in and then took a little of each.

Now that we’ve had some starters, let head over to the hot foods.

This is France, so of course there was a variety of delicious cheeses offered.

It’s time to check out the desserts!

Here’s a helpful tip: We saw so many yummy desserts as we got our starters and main courses, but when it was time to get dessert, a lot of what we wanted was already gone, including the cheesecake and strawberry rhubarb pie. If we had known this would happen, we would have definitely went straight for the desserts to ensure that we didn’t miss out on anything.

Still, not a bad selection, even though our favorites were already gone. There were cakes, puddings, tartes, and individual servings of panacottas.

See how the cakes change on the left and right of the individual panacottas in the pictures above and below? The cheesecake in the previous photo looked soooo good. Alas, maybe next time.

They even had individual servings of Caesar salad and shrimp salad! All daintily portioned for the perfect size.

I considered this a once-in-a-lifetime experience and really enjoyed everything about the Sunday brunch. The food was really good, and there was a lot to choose from. I wasn’t disappointed at all, even though the price of the Sunday brunch was quite expensive.

For me, the highlight of the buffet was the food and its presentation. However, this is a character buffet, so favorites like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip, and Dale visited each table to meet diners and take pictures.

Each buffet is themed and the characters dress up accordingly.  At our Sunday brunch, the theme was “Cinema”, so the characters were dressed in 1920’s movie-related outfits

Bye Donald!

Remember, we specifically went to the Sunday brunch buffet, so if you visit any other day or time, the quality, amount, and presentation of food will differ.

The price of the Sunday brunch when we went was €64 (about $72) per person, but I’m not sure that is still the case. DLPGuide currently lists the price of the lunch buffet (not Sunday brunch) as €57.00 for adults and €31.00 for children (3 to 11 years old), so expect the Sunday brunch to be a bit more.
